Roberts and Cundy continue the rush!

David Roberts from Pontypridd and Jody Cundy from Swansea continued their Paralympic medal assaults in Beijing today, with Roberts claiming his NINTH gold medal and another world record, in the 100m freestyle race and Cundy claiming gold in the team sprint.

Sports Minister Alun Ffred Jones congratulated Roberts, saying:

“This is David’s second medal in a matter of days and I can only imagine the kind of celebration waiting for him when he gets back to Pontypridd! David and his teammates train at a world-class facility, with a world-class coach and the excellent results we are seeing are testament to all their hard work and dedication. David has three more races in Beijing and I have no doubt he will continue to excel in those races as well. He is an exceptionally gifted athlete.

“Cundy is evidently a skilled sportsman, having won thee Paralympic golds as a swimmer, and today achieving his second gold as a cyclist. Not only did he produce a world record in the LC2 1km time trial yesterday, but Jody and his teammates defeated the host nation and put in an amazing performance in today’s team sprint. I am absolutely delighted for them.”
