Performance & Academy Update

Athletics

The Welsh Championships, organised by Welsh Athletics, included the Parallel Success programme by UK Athletics, which saw a number of events for our athletes within an integrated setting. A very positive experienced by most, and an event to build on over the coming years. One of the highlights of the event saw Jenny McLoughlin posting a selection standard for Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Swiss Track Championships – Brian Alldis, Dan Lucker, Julie Hamzah & Josie Pearson competed for GB at this event. Highlights include Brian Alldis posting a selection standard for the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games in the 1500m. Also Julie, Josie and Brian posted B standard times for consideration to the GB squad for the IPC World Championships in New Zealand in January 2011.

IPC Tunis Open, Tunisia – Jenny McLoughlin and Tracy Hinton are currently competing out in Tunisia, with both winning Gold in their respective 100m class.

Upcoming events – DSE Juniors Blackpool, CP Sport Grand Prix Nottingham and Irish National Champs in Eire this weekend July 2nd – 4th

Upcoming Targets – IWAS Junior World Championships in Czech Republic in August 2010 & IPC World Championships in New Zealand, January 2011.

Boccia

Three players selected for the next stage of the GB Boccia Fast Track programme. The transition squad will be put through their paces between now and October 2010, with the final 2012 Squad nominated in November. Currently on the programme is James Bailey (Cardiff) and Jacob Thomas (Pembroke) along with Elite Squad member Karl Parrish (Chepstow).

Rowing

WARA (Welsh Amateur Rowing Association) have appointed a part-time Adaptive Rowing Coach, and is already working with a couple of identified rowers.

Powerlifting

2 Gold, 1 Silver gained at the UK Nationals in Stoke Mandeville recently

Sitting Volleyball

The FDSW Sitting Volleyball squad, Celtic Dragons, travelled to Hamburg recently to compete in the Werner von Siemens Cup, which sees the best clubs in Europe compete against each other. It was invaluable experience for the squad, winning a couple of games over the weekend.

The Men’s squad will be travelling to Kent this weekend to compete in the Kent International Sitting Volleyball Tournament. They will pit their wits against GB, Kenya and a team from Battle Back.

Equestrian

Academy Rider Georgia Wilson (Abergele) joined World Class Development Rider Natalie Povey (Wrexham) at the British Para Dressage Championships in Hickstead. Natalie gained third place behind Lee Pearson (multi-paralympian) in the Open Class, whilst Georgia beat World Class Development Riders to first place in the Restricted Class.

Table Tennis

Early results from the Spanish Open sees a multitude of medals for Welsh players.
