LUCKER IMPRESSES AGAINST SENIOR RACERS IN MANCHESTER 10K
Academy member Daniel Lucker, from Abergavenny, impresses the world of Wheelchair Racing by holding his own against Senior racers in the Manchester 10k Race. Up against seasoned pros such as Jason Gill and Mark Telford he was only 1 minute outside the winning time from Gill.
Jason Gill defied the strong winds which hindered all 31,000 entrants at the Bupa Great Manchester Run on Sunday to score a convincing victory.
The 38-year-old BWRA athlete from Little Sutton in Cheshire, always dominated the 10000metres race, winning in a time of exactly 26minutes.
Gill who during his career has best finishes of fifth in the Bupa Great North Run two years ago and was fifth at the 2002 Flora London Marathon, defeated Mark Telford and Daniel Lucker.
Last year’s bronze medallist finished 30 seconds clear of Telford, the 29-year-old Scot who was 12th in last month’s London Marathon and after those exertions produced an excellent result.
Teenager Lucker who seems likely to develop into one of the country’s top disabled wheelchair athletes in the future, produced an admirable display.
The 15-year-old winner of last year’s UK Schools’ 200m, showing his versatility placed third in 27min 17sec.
Lucker is now looking forward to travelling to the United States for the IWAS World Junior Championships in July.
