JOHNSON BREAKS WORLD MARK AGAIN

Elizabeth Johnson stole the show on the second day of competition at the British Gas Swimming Championships after breaking the SB6 100m Breaststroke world record in evening’s final.

The Paralympic Champion looked confident from the start and she was pushed throughout the race by Charlotte Henshaw.

European Champion Claire Cashmore (SB8, City of Leeds) touched first in 1:23.26 and secured 907 points but when Johnson touched in a new world record time of 1:39.58 she took the gold medal with a total of 1015 points.

Bronze went to Henshaw (Nova Centurion) in a time of 1:40.34 and 993 points.

Stockport Metro’s Daniel Pepper (S14) stormed to victory in the men’s 100m Breaststroke ahead of Matthew Whorwood.

Pepper, who won silver in the 200m Freestyle, looked promising from the start and sealed his first gold medal of the competition with a time of 1:11.61 with a score of 798.

Whorwood (SB6, Swansea Performance) won silver in a time of 1:35.07 and a total of 798. Dave Ellis (SB13, City of Manchester) won bronze in 1:10.79 and 761 points.

The women’s 50m Freestyle saw European Champion Louise Watkin take her first gold medal of the competition as the four S9 athletes battled it out for victory.

Watkin lined up next to Stephanie Millward (Swansea Performance) and Claire Cashmore at the start and they took the race out fastest.

Paralympic silver medallist Watkin touched in a time of 30.26 and scored 884 points to take the gold. Millward just took silver with a total of 832 points after finishing in 30.87. Cashmore took bronze just one point behind Millward with 831 points and a time of 30.89.

Jim Anderson finished his 50m Backstroke in a time of 1:10.35 and a total of 724 points.
