Jones, competing in Discus, Hammer and Shot Putt, returns to the GB Team following an absence of 3 years. Jones said: ‘I have had a number of injuries over the last few years, and I have swapped the sprint running I used to do to the Throws. I’m looking forward to representing GB at this event’.

The event is for Athletes with a Learning Disability, and is being organised by Mencap Sport on behalf of UK Sports Association for People with Leaning Disabilities.

FDSW Academy Manager & UKSAPLD Board Director, Gerwyn Owen said: ‘GB have a strong tradition of elite athletes within the Learning Disability classification. John is an experienced athlete who will thrive in this high-performance environment. He has been training very hard over the winter months based at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff.’

‘At the moment, athletes with a Learning Disability are not allowed to compete at the Paralympic Games, but UKSAPLD are working with all parties to try and get them back into the Games for London 2012. In the meantime FDSW recognises the efforts of these athletes and have supported John in his quest to be the best that he can’.
