Disability Grand Prix of Wales Competitors Update

As the entries start to get confirmed for this years Disability Grand Prix of Wales on Sunday 24th May another country joins the list of nations taking part for the first time this year.

Team Canada is sending a five member squad to Wales for this years event with the tandem pairing of Brian Cowie and Devon Smibert, being accompanied by three solo riders Brayden McDougall, Jean Quevillon (Beijing Bronze Medalist) and Eric Bourgault.

In addition Team Australia once again make the trip to Newport for the fourth year in succession, along with a field from across Europe and one rider Vitório Silvestre making the long journey from Nova Lima in Brazil !

Now in its fourth year the event has been elevated to full “UCI World Ranking” status for the first time in 2009 and marks a major milestone in the development of Paralympic Cycling in Wales to have such a prestigious event on home soil.

Although the event attracts many of the Worlds Elite Paralympic cyclists, it is also about providing a place for disabled riders of any level to compete and this year will be no exception with to date over a dozen new names including youth riders planning to use the Grand Prix like Jody Cundy did in 2006 to launch their careers.
