CELTIC DRAGONS AT THE NATIONALS

The Celtic Dragons Sitting Volleyball Team attended the National Finals at the Crystal Palace Sports Centre on Saturday April 24th. They had reached the Nationals by virtue of topping the Grand Prix Series over the last couple of months.

In the Semi-finals they faced a much improved Portsmouth team, who have developed well over the last 6 months. The Dragons saw off early pressure to take the game in 2 Sets. The other semi-final saw a similar game, where the experienced team from East London beating the East Midlands Lions 2 – 0.

The Lynx team (East London) comprising of many of the GB Team, showed their experience in the final taking the game 3 sets to nil.

In light of the fact that the Dragons team has only been in existence for 6 months, it is testament to the young developing players that they reached the final, as well as topping the Grand Prix series. Already the team has contributed a player to the GB Team, in Sam Scott from Cardiff, who played for GB at the recent World Cup in Egypt. Many other players are being looked at by the GB Team, and I’m sure over the coming months, many other names will be added to the GB Programme.

Huge thanks goes to the Coaching Team – Olga Jergorova, Barry Morgan and Anthony Hughes in developing the team to such a high standard of play, in a relatively short time.

Further competitions are being lined up for the summer for the team.
