BRITTON WINS TEAM ARCHERY GOLD

Pippa Britton, from Newport, took Gold in the Team event, whilst narrowly missing out on an Individual medal at the World Championships in the Czech Republic.

Pippa Britton was edged out in the bronze medal play-off 104-101.

Dannielle Brown’s two golds helped GB top the medal table with Korea

Yorkshire star Brown beat Clarke 114-107 to retain her women’s compound individual title after both had helped GB take team gold on Friday.

Fred Stevens won bronze in the men’s compound event.

The Leicestershire archer, at 63 the oldest man in the GB squad, beat Jonathan Mize of the United States on the second arrow of the tie-break after the pair had finished level on 109 apiece after 12 arrows.

“It’s been another fantastic day for our archers, and everyone’s thrilled to bits,” said GB Paralympic coach Tim Hazell (Newport)

“It was a shame there had to be a winner in the final between Dani and Mel, but Dani is having another great year, and I’m sure everyone agrees she’s a worthy world champion.

“Fred’s had a great week, and this is a great achievement by a guy who has really worked hard to get this far. We’re as pleased for him as he is for himself.”

The bronze for Stevens adds to the silver he won with John Stubbs and John Murray in the team final on Friday where they lost to Korea.
