BOCCIA NATIONALS HIT CARDIFF
The GB Boccia Federation hold their GB National Championships at Welsh Institute of Sport, Sophia Gardens, Cardiff this Saturday (May 17th). Over 30 of the most talented Boccia players will be descending on Cardiff in search of not just National titles, but also confirmation of their selections to the GB Team who will compete in the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games. In fact, players selected will be notified at the end of the days competition.
The event is being coordintaed on behalf of GB Boccia Federation by Boccia Wales and Disability Sport Wales. Boccia Wales is the newly formed governing body of the sport in Wales, and is keen to ensure that the sport has the proper structure available to Welsh players to participate at a local level, up to possible inclusion within GB programmes.
9 Welsh players have been selected to the event. They gained selection following their display at the Welsh Boccia Championships held in January this year. Also they have been recommended for selection by the newly appointed Academy Coach, Peter Pearse. Pearse, an ex-paralympian in the Sport, is guiding our young talented athletes, and has personal aspirations for some of these players to play at London 2012 Paralympic Games.
