Academy Player wins Bronze in Boccia International

Academy member, and GB Fast Track programme player, Kathryn Jones from Caerphilly flew out with the GB Boccia Team to compete at the International Czech Championships for her first taste of international competition. She didn’t disappoint as she returned home with a Bronze medal.

She battled her way through the group stages, beating GB Fast Track player, Jess Hunter, in the quarter finals. This led to a semi final against another GB player Thomas Dowan, and after a tense and dramatic game-play, Dowan emerged victorious, he went on to win Silver.

Kathryn met English player Ryan Paladino in the 3rd/4th playoff, and took the Bronze medal in the losing stages of the weekend.

Kathryn now teams up with a strong Welsh team selected to play in the Cheshire International Open, Wigan over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Team Selected:
BC1/2 Team – Steve Evans (Crumlin) Andrew Williams (Mold) Dylan Evans (Rhyl)
BC3 Pair – Wales 1 – James Bailey (Cardiff) Jacob Thomas (Pembroke)
BC3 Pair – Wales 2 – Kathryn Jones (Caerphilly) Gareth Stafford (Wrexham)
BC4 Pair – Tomas Martin (Cardiff) Kathryn Watkins (Trecastle)
