ACADEMY & PERFORMANCE UPDATE

Athletics:

BT Paralympic World Cup

Tracy Hinton – 1 Gold, 1 Silver
James Ball – 2 Silver
Jenny McLoughlin 2 Bronze

IPC Dutch Open

1 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze

IPC European Open Championships

2 Gold, 2 Silver, 2 Bronze

Boccia:

Karl Parrish, Academy member and on the GB Fast Track Programme, competed at the CP-ISRA Boccia World Championships in Lisbon, Portugal.

Unfortunately in the BC3 Pair and Individual he didn’t make it out of the qualifying rounds, however, as a first international competition opportunity for Karl, the experience gained, along with international classification and ranking position of 53 in the world, he can only gain positives out of this competition.

Powerlifting:

UK Nationals – Stoke Mandeville

1 Gold – Julie Salmon
1 Silver – Kyron Duke
1 Gold – Daniel Steward

All lifters gained the selection standards for Commonwealth Games, Delhi 2010, and their names along with their coach, Gideon Griffiths, will be put forward to the Selection Committee for Commonwealth Games Council for Wales.

Upcoming Events:

Cardiff, June 12th & 13th

This Weekend the Welsh Championships and Commonwealth Games Trials hosted by Welsh Athletics see them hosting the UK Athletics Aviva Parallel Success events for disability athletics events. The event will see a host of Welsh Academy & Performance Athletes competing alongside the best GB athletes, as well as athletes from further afield such as Ireland and Australia. The event will see some athletes looking to set standards to be considered for Delhi 2010 selections.

Certain critical timings of events

Saturday lunchtime from 11.45am until approx 1.30pm – events inc ambulant and wheelchair 400m, as well as ambulant discus. Athletes on show include 5 time paralympian Tracy Hinton from Cardiff, Junior World Champion Daniel Lucker from Abergavenny and recent European Senior Champion Aled Sion Davies from Bridgend.

At 4.50pm the 1500m wheelchair race will take place, where both Daniel Lucker and Brian Alldis (originally from Cardiff) will look to post a selection time for consideration for Team Wales in Delhi.

Sunday lunchtime will see further races and throws events between 12 – 1pm and also between 2 – 4pm.

Hamburg, June 19th & 20th

The Welsh Sitting Volleyball squad will be competing in Hamburg, Germany over the weekend in the Werner von Siemens Cup, which sees teams from all over Europe compete in this prestigious event.
