TRIO TAKE ON THE BEST IN EUROPE
25 May 2011
This weekend will see three Welsh Boccia player travelling out to Prague in the Czech Republic to take on the best in Europe at the Czech Open.
Karl Parrish (Chepstow) fresh from winning the BC3 class Welsh Championships recently, goes into this weekend full of confidence, and will look to put the experience he has gained representing GB at last year’s Boccia World Championships into practice. He’ll be joined in the BC3 competition with his training and team partner James Bailey (Cardiff). Both these players have a busy workload ahead, in addition to the Czech Open, next month will see them compete in a Test event in Belfast and the Cheshire International Open in Wigan.
Andrew Williams (Mold, Flintshire) makes up the trio, and on the back of winning his class event in the Welsh Championships, his ranking as 4th in GB will hold him in good stead to make his mark in this European battle.
They will be pitting their wits against players from England, Scotland, GB Team, Slovak Republic and Czech Republic amongst others. This is the first time Welsh Boccia Academy players have been entered into this prestigious event, and will hope to replicate the success of another Welsh player, Kathryn Jones (Caerphilly) who won Bronze in the event last year, representing GB Team. The event is seen as an opportunity for all three players to be seen by the GB Selectors as they challenge for places within the GB Team for London 2012.
