21 April 2011

Aled NZ B&W

As the curtain fell on the IWAS Junior World Championships out in Dubai, Welsh athletes can look back on another successful event, with another 5 medals won on the last day.

On the back of a successful Shot event yesterday Aled-Sion Davies - pictured, Senior World Silver medallist, took one step further at Junior level to grab Gold in his number one event, F42 Discus.

A busy schedule as always for wheelchair racer Daniel Lucker (Abergavenny) grabbed Gold in the T54 400m whilst had to settle for Silver in the 5000m. He finished off with 1 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze.

Kyron Duke (Cwmbran) crowned a successful few months, after gaining Bronze in the Senior World Championships, by adding Silver in the Discus to the Gold he won yesterday.

Josh Clark (Cardiff) competing in his first major international event, didn’t let the nerves affect him by snatching Bronze in the F37 Shot Putt.

Swansea athlete Josh Morgan missed out on a medal by a few cms in the F44 Shot, whilst Ashleigh Hellyer, also from Swansea, was 8th in a very tough multi-class seated shot putt event.

Also competing was Cardiff-based athletes Hollie Arnold & Vicky Silk who took Gold in the F42 and F40 Javelin respectively.

Therefore Welsh athletes contributed 15 medals to the GB Team, a further update on their performances will follow.
