Disability Equality Training: Parents/Guardians & Carers (PGC)

Coming Soon!!

Parents/Guardians and Carers are in a lot of cases the ones who provide young disabled people and children with their first experiences of sport, and FDSW believe that it is part of their role to support parents/guardians and carers in finding the most appropriate sporting environment for their children or client. This 2 hour workshop is intended to provide parents/guardians and carers with an enhanced level of knowledge about sport, coaching, and opportunities within disability and non-disability sport.

The workshop will be a mixture of group interaction, idea-sharing and the provision of relevant and useful information. Specific scenarios have been developed to stimulate discussion, highlight particular concerns expressed by parents/guardians, carers, children, young adults, and adults, coaches, volunteers, leaders, and club organisers, and adopt a problem-solving approach to the provision of support to disabled children/young adults/adults by their parents/guardians and carers in their sports participation.

The workshop includes the following areas:
1. Perceptions and experiences
2. Benefits of participation
3. Opportunities to get involved
4. Further information and contacts

At the end of this workshop you should have sufficient information to be able to support your child / client through their involvement in sport or physical activity, and feel confident that you understand the opportunities and support mechanisms available to you and your child / client.

This workshop will be available from the end of December 2009.
