Ian Martin
Ian has been a director for Disability Sport Wales since 2003.
Ian’s current occupation as a Disability Sport Wales Sports Development Officer expands his involvement with our organisation from a national to local level. Being the Disability Sport Wales Development Officer for Conwy, Ian has gained experience of developing disability sport both professionally and as a volunteer in Wales and across the UK.
Alongside his involvement with DSW, Ian has been committed to promoting disability cricket for six years. Ian’s objectives for cricket as a non paralympic sport are to develop its presence both domestically and internationally. Ian’s experiences with disability cricket has promoted playing opportunities and facilitated in meeting the requirements of UK Sport’s Equity framework to enhance the disability side of the sport.
As chairman of the British Association for Cricketers with Disabilities and the Welsh Regional Disability Cricket Forum, Ian’s voluntary efforts have influenced the Cricket Governing Body to support disabled aspects of the game.
As a member of the England and Wales Cricket Board, Ian’s successful impact with cricket will replicate that of other non-paralympic sports.
Ian spends the majority of his spare time with his family and coaching cricket. Ian’s leading initiative is to establish cricket in the Caribbean. Ian plans to visit Trinidad this February to kick start this exciting project.
