Philip Donovan
Philip has been a director with DSW since its formation in August 2004. Prior to that, Philip was one of the founding members of the former Federation of Sports Associations for the Disabled (Wales) and has now been involved with DSW for ten years.
A former Chairman of Welsh Deaf Sport and now President, Phil has always been committed to the development of sports opportunities for deaf and hearing impaired people.
Phil is also currently an Executive Director with the British Deaf Sports Council and has been since 1998, alongside this role Phil is a key co-ordinator for BDSC Bowls.
Phil lost his hearing through illness at a young age and attended a Residential School for the deaf in the 1950’s. Phil was one of the first deaf children to go into the mainstream education system and as a result he enjoyed participating in football, table tennis and cycling throughout his education.
In his spare time, Phil teaches sign language at Neath College, and enjoys family holidays with his wife and two daughters. Phil also plays bowls for B.S Margam B.C in Port Talbot Bowls League, WDS Deaf Bowls League and Port Talbot Indoor Bowls.
Phil has had many achievements to be proud of throughout his career. After joining the South Wales Deaf Sports Council in 1986, Phil was given the task of developing Welsh Deaf Bowls from scratch. Phil’s commitment to Welsh Bowls has facilitated the development of the sport internationally.
